Our (gay) guide to Halloween 2014 in Vancouver

It’s that time of year again as ghouls and ghosts take over Vancouver streets and the local gay bars. Here is our 2014 (gay) guide to some of the Halloween events happening around Vancouver this year.

Ongoing

This year’s Halloween Ghost Train in Stanley Park presents a twisted cabaret of timeless nursery rhymes and bedtime treats perfect for a Halloween night. A fun-for-all-ages adventure on the Stanley Park miniature railway is always a sell-out.

Fright Nights at Playland return with seven haunted houses, 13 rides plus The Monsters of Schlock, the Kinshira Fire Performers and other terrifying shows and attractions.

The theatre community celebrates too with Fighting Chance Productions completes its run of Carrie The Musical and The Virtual Stage presents another interactive zombie adventure On Death’s Door: Plague of the Zombie Syndrome.

SHIFT Theatre presents Steve Yockey’s very still & hard to see, a collection of short plays designed to collapse the distance between the real and the surreal.  And over at the Dr Sun Yat-Sen Garden in Chinatown, Seven Tyrants Theatre transform the classical Chinese garden into Judge Dee’s Chinatown Haunted House.

Saturday, October 25

The Haunting, the Vancouver Pride Society’s Halloween Party returns. Hosted by Symone Says the evening features acrobatic performances by San Samaara and roving balloon balloon girls throughout the night.  With DJs Quest, Karsten Sollors and Tracey Draper.

Wednesday, October 29

Celebrities hosts a special Halloween Bingo in support of The Vancouver Friends For Life Society.  Each dollar raised will be matched by Scotiabank (up to $1,500).

Thursday, October 30

Shokra headlines Liberace Evil Queens Halloween Ball at Celebrities on October 30 with DJ Zach Shore.

Friday, October 31

Baron von Zumzing’s Traveling Sideshow returns to the West End with its 5th annual Halloween fundraiser for A Loving Spoonful. October 31.

Numbers presents a Halloween House of Horrors with a special Halloween themed haunted house.  Featuring DJs Landon James and Modu.

Heaven’s Door presents Happy Clowns and Paranoia, a night of Halloween entertainment with a Halloween drag show and DJs Grind & Valynne Vile.

The Junction presents its annual Halloween party, Vintage Circus Freak Show with DJ Drew and host Mandy Kamp.

The Pumpjack gets into the Halloween Spirit with Asylum featuring DJ Jay Douglas.

Saturday, November 1

Monroe: Post Mortem is your après-Halloween party featuring a Halloween edition of Drag Roulette and a show featuring Cassandra Moore and Raye Sunshine, plus DJ Zach Shore.

The annual Parade of Lost Souls in East Vancouver returns on November 1 with its secret location announced at midnight the night before.
