This week in (gay) Vancouver: colours, cock and candy apples

This week we put a spotlight on Our City of Colours, talk about Cock, and help ensure you have plenty to do this Halloween weekend.

Our City of Colours

Our City of Colours seeks to raise the the visibility of, and address the issues facing LGBTQ+ people in a variety of linguistic and cultural communities. In launches its latest poster campaign at the Heartwood Cafe (Oct 28) with a new photo series LGBTQ+ portraits from the communities it serves. The posters will appear at bus shelters around the city.

Cock

Make all the jokes you want, but Rumble Theatre’s season opener is fare more than just a naughty title. In Mike Bartlett’s Cock (Oct 29-Nov 8) the playwright explores identity and the fluidity of sexuality as John must choose between his longtime male lover and the new woman he has just recently met. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “labels are for clothes”.

Halloween

The high holy days of the gay calendar are upon us as we get dressed up as our favourite superheroes or for one friend we know, as a “sexy” perogy (yes, you heard that right a Ukrainian dumpling). Few do Halloween better than the gays and we’ve got all kinds of ideas for you to have a spooktacular time this week.
