This week in (gay) Vancouver: showtunes, supper and some camp

This week we talk about Fight Club, join the Fillmore Family in an homage to The Sound of Music, and turn the dial to our city’s newest radio station.

Showtunes presents Fight Night

The battle lines are drawn as Showtunes at 1181 presents Fight Night (Nov 6). Whether its the Jets and the Sharks of West Side Story or the citizen’s revolt in Les Miserables, the number one rule about Fight Night is that you talk about Fight Night. Oh wait, shouldn’t that be sing about Fight Night?

Okay, we don't usually feature events that take place beyond a week, but we know how gosh golly gee popular the Fillmore Family Fowl Supper (Nov 7) is every year and how disappointed people are when they don't buy their tickets early. This year the family goes all Von Trapp with a homage to one of the greatest musicals of all-time, The Sound of Music. A tongue-in-cheek celebration of the fall harvest, there is nothing funny about the hundreds of thousands of dollars the supper has raised over the years for local charities.

Camp on Roundhouse Radio

Janice Ungaro and Cory Ashworth host Camp (Sundays) on Roundhouse Radio, Vancouver’s newest hyper-local radio station. Promising a show that will embrace queer culture from past to present, this free-wielding two hours is sure to entertain, educate, and make the airwaves just that much more fabulous.
