This week in (gay) Vancouver: music, drag and some winter fun

Winteruption returns to Granville Island

The Rainbow Band gets some help, Vancouver gets a new drag superstar, and winter is celebrated on Granville Island.

Agent C and Top Secret have teamed up once again to offer a blues band concert fundraising event for the Rainbow Concert Band. Riding on the success of last year’s event, Rainbow II: Blues for the Rainbow Band (Feb 18) is promising to be another great fundraiser in support of the band.

Celebrities Nightclub is the host of the finale for this year’s Search for Vancouver’s Next Drag SuperStar (Feb 19) that will feature celebrity judge and a live performance by William from Rupaul’s Drag Race season four. The winner of the contest receives a trip to the finale party for this year’s Rupaul’s Drag Race.

It may feel more like May-bruary there than February, but that isn’t stopping the organizers of the 10th Winterruption Festival (Feb 19-22) from celebrating with their annual mid-winter celebration of art, music, dance, theatre, film, family fun, gastronomy, and the celebration of the outdoors. Taking place on Granville Island over four days, Festival highlights include Charlie Ross’ One-Man Star Wars Trilogy, plenty of activities for the kids and even a multi-course dinner focused on sustainable seafood.
