This week in (gay) Vancouver: openings, fundraising and belting

The Chan Centre opens its new season, Positive Living BC holds its annual fundraiser and Showtunes gets an additional date!

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia opens its 2014/2015 season with longtime collaborators Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer (Sep 16) in an evening of music that blurs the boundaries of bluegrass, classical, and pop.  Having previously collaborated on several critically acclaimed projects including the Grammy Award-winning Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo-Yo Ma in 2011, the duo once again reunite to promote their newest album with the Chan Centre stop their only Canadian date on their North American tour.

The annual Vancouver AIDS Walk for Life (Sep 21) is the largest fundraiser of the year for Positive Living BC, with the money raised going directly to help fund the organization’s Complementary Health Fund (CHF) which reimburses users up to $35 per month.  Register to walk or donate at http:///

Can’t make it out on a Friday night for the regular Showtunes (Sep 21) night? Organizers have expanded the uber popular event with a new show every third Sunday of the month at The Junction beginning on September 21. Celebrate your favourite Broadway musicals and show tunes with food and drink and sing along to video clips.
