This week in (gay) Vancouver: Shakespeare, drag queens and lesbians

Lisa Wolpe presents Shakespeare and the Alchemy of Gender on July 16.

A gender-bending actor, drag queens on the roller coaster and a quick way to meet other women are all part of the coming week in (gay) Vancouver.

In Shakespeare and the Alchemy of Gender (Jul 16), Lisa Wolpe performs and contextualizes her experience as Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company and from interpreting some of the many Shakespearian roles she has played – Hamlet, Iago, Richard III. It should prove to be an engaging evening of gender-bending the plays that where the roles of women were traditionally played by men.

It’s that time of year again when you get to ride the roller coaster with a drag queen!  The Vancouver Pride Society hosts Gay Day at Playland (Jul 19) with all of the fun of the midway and its rides plus an amazing line-up of entertainers at the beer garden in afternoon. Mini-donuts not included.

Looking to hit up Vancouver Pride 2014 with someone new? Lez Hookup (Jul 19) may be the answer.  This girl-girl speed dating event understands how difficult it can be to meet the “perfect one” or even make new friends in Vancouver.
