Morgan Brayton wins 2010 Fringe award

Vancouver comedian, performer and writer Morgan Brayton walked away with the Georgia Straight Critics Choice Award for her show Raccoonery! at the 2010 Vancouver International Fringe Festival.

Morgan BraytonBrayton’s one woman show, a series of monologues full of strange characters, received much buzz around this year’s Festival including a four star rating in our own review of her show, before being recognized by Georgia Straight theatre critics Colin Thomas and Kathleen Oliver in last night’s award ceremony.

Up against some tough competition, including another of our own Festival favourites Wanderlust, Brayton took home the award along with another solo show, Limbo.

Moments before receiving her award last night Brayton tell us she received an email from her father: “Morgan, I am so proud of you I can’t do up the buttons on my pyjamas. Love Dad.”

“It was like every needy actor’s dream come true: praise from critics and praise from a parent all at once. Overwhelmingly amazing,” said Brayton of her win.

“I’m really proud of this show and of our team and, frankly, I’m still reeling over this award so words are hard today,” she continued. “It means a lot to me and I’m so grateful and excited. Hopefully this will help Raccoonery! have a larger life beyond the Fringe”.

Go see it—and knock over some garbage cans on the way.
