GayVancouver.Net is pleased to present the screening of award-winning director Kareem Mortimer’s first feature film Children of God on Saturday, August 14th as part of the 2010 Vancouver Queer Film Festival.
Juxtaposing the tranquil, idyllic natural beauty of the Bahamas with its tumultuous and homophobic political and religious climate, Children of God examines a conflicted nation through the eyes of Lena, a deeply conservative pastor’s wife whose marriage is suffering because her husband is secretly indulging in the “ultimate sin”; Jonny, a white artist struggling to express himself creatively in a world where his truth is considered criminal; and Romeo, a handsome young Bahamian hiding his identity from his close-knit and traditional family.
Each one’s journey leads to the peaceful island of Eleuthra as they try to escape their current circumstances. Soon, their worlds collide, shaking foundations and challenging beliefs with the poignant questions of tolerance, courage, love and self-acceptance.
Mortimer’s film has deeply moved audiences and film critics at queer and international film festivals around the world. Powerful performances, fragile gay romance and a shocking conclusion make Children of God a film not to be missed.
The GayVancouver.Net (Gay Vancouver Online) sponsored screening of Children of God will take place at the Granville 7 Cinemas on Saturday, August 14th at 7pm as part of the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. Visit http://www.queerfilmfestival.ca for more information.
