The woman who took on “The Donald” is about to take on another challenge, as transgender model and activist Jenna Talackova gets the green-light for her own reality television series.
Billing it as an “entertainment documentary”, the half-hour television show has a working title of Brave New Girl and will air on the E! television channel in the fall of 2013. Bell Media, owners of E!, have ordered eight episodes of the unscripted series that will follow Talackova’s move from Vancouver to Toronto to pursue her career. The series will also feature two of her gal-pals documentary filmmaker Elana and model and student Dajana.
“I’m so happy to be sharing my life with the E! viewers,” says Talackova. “It will be fun letting the world watch as I take the next steps in pursing my dreams.”
The Vancouver born and raised Talackova made headlines in 2012 for taking on Miss Universe Canada and its high profile owner Donald Trump after initially being disqualified as a contestant for not being a “naturally born” woman. After hiring high-profile American civil-rights lawyer Gloria Allred, pageant organizers eventually capitulated and allowed her to compete. Taking part in the competition in May of that year, Talackova made it to the top twelve before being eliminated from the competition. She was awarded the title of Miss Congeniality along with three other contestants.
Following her fight with the Miss Universe organizers that made international headlines, Talackova was appeared as one of the grand marshals for the 2012 Vancouver Pride parade.
