The daily challenges of belonging and not belonging will be explored through storytelling by LGBTQ people of colour, Indigenous people, immigrants and refugees in a series of events through November.
In BeLonging/s: Bathrooms Binaries and other Burning Issues, five storytellers will share wide-ranging experiences of negotiating community, identity and belonging with stories taking on struggles with faith, family acceptance, bathhouses, bathrooms, gender bending, complex cultural locations, and feeling safe.
Community hosts will facilitate post-performance dialogue, including reflections on individual and community strategies against racism, homophobia, and xenophobia. Performance includes explicit language and scenes of a sensitive nature. This event is intended for audiences 14 and older.
These free events will take place on three days in November:
November 7th @ 2:30pm – 4:30pm at the Robert Lee YMCA (955 Burrard Street)
November 21st @ 5:30pm at the Roundhouse Community Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews)
November 24th @ 7pm at CBC Studio 700 (700 Hamilton Street)
