The Playhouse Theatre Company presents the Electric Company Theatre’s production of Studies in Motion: The Hauntings of Eadweard Muybridge at the Vancouver Playhouse Theatre (Hamilton and Dunsmuir Streets in downtown Vancouver) from April 1 – 18, 2009.

Studies in Motion was originally co-produced by Electric Company Theatre and Theatre at UBC and premiered at the 2006 PuSh International Performing Arts Festival. The run at the Playhouse is part of a national tour. Studies in Motion will also play at the Yukon Arts Centre, Whitehorse from March 24-27 and Alberta Theatre Projects in Calgary from April 21-May 9.

The mysteries of the human body are laid bare, literally, in this sensational character study that explores the life, work and ghosts of turn-of-the-century photographer Eadweard Muybridge. Muybridge’s high-speed motion photographs of people and animals were sensational in the Victorian age, both for their nudity and their ability to reveal the beauty found in simple movement. You’ll find echoes of Robert Lepage’s innovative, multi-media staging in this spellbinding profile of the man who froze time.
