New on the local scene, the Vancouver LGBT Rock Climbing Group is looking for new members to join their group of rock climbers.
Grown out of the Vancouver Rock Climbing Meetup Group, this LGBTQ specific group welcomes climbers of all levels and skills or those that are simply looking to see what rock climbing is all about.
According to group organizer Giulio R, the idea for the group came after discovering Homo Climbtastic, a queer group of climbers who organize climbing trips in North America.
“I felt inspired by them, and I decided to open a Vancouver chapter. I received great support both from them and from my original climbing group,” said Giulio.
The group aims to help members network with other climbers, learn to climb, make new friends, share techniques, and help find training partners. But be warned, says Giulio, for rock climbing is both incredibly social and addictive (not to mention good for you).
“It’s a great sport,” says Giulio. “You exercise your body, you train your mind, and you get to spend time in nature. Then – you go for beer. Life should be like that every day!”
Its mission is to introduce the amazing and life-altering experience of “making love to the mountain” (aka rock climbing) to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, transgender and queer community in Vancouver – and beyond.
