Bringing colour, passion, creativity & philanthropy together

Art collectors will get their yearly chance to add to their collections as Friends For Life Society presents its 18th Art For Life on November 26, 2011.  With over 100 works of art donated by some of Vancouver’s top artists and galleries, the annual fundraiser is expected to raise over $200,000 for the charity.

Art For Life“As the signature event for Friends For Life, Art For Life continues to bring colour, passion, creativity, community, compassion and philanthropy together in one room, one night each year,” said the Society’s Executive Director Sheena Sargeant.

Having a long history of giving to back to the community, each year through Art For Life, the local artist community helps ensure Friends For Life can deliver on its mandate to provide its programs and services for people confronting the challenges of HIV/ AIDS, cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.

According to Sargeant the sale of a single piece of art at $2,500 enables the Society to provide a complete, in-home care package to its members living in the palliative stages of illness.

“Art For Life plays a vital role in ensuring that Friends For Life continues to provide holistic health services to over 1400 individuals facing serious and end-of-life illnesses, including HIV and cancer,” she said.  “We are humbled yet again by the generosity displayed by the galleries and independent artists that have contributed to this year’s stunning collection.

With this year’s theme – An Auction in Three Acts – the live and silent auctions will be complimented with performances by Public Dreams and Vancouver drag diva Joan-E.

The evening will finish with a finale performance by the Juno-award winning, Bif Naked who says Friends For Life is a blessing for the whole community and with 100% of the proceeds going to support their work it was something she had to be part of.  “I love people so much and deeply appreciate Art For Life for all the help and hope they bring each and every day for so many people. I am so honored to be participating, even in my small way,” she said.

To be held at the Rocky Mountain Station in the False Creek Flats area, Friends For Life have made special arrangements with Teamsters Local 31 to ensure the facility is not picketed during the current labour dispute.
