Art Collectors are polishing their bidding paddles as Vancouver Friends for Life Society gets set to host the 19th edition of its annual Art For Life fundraiser in November.

“This year at Art For Life, our theme is pop art” said Sheena Sargeant, Executive Director of Friends For Life Society. “As such, our aim is to create a light and friendly atmosphere where vibrant colours, limitless creativity, and a passion for building a compassionate community may come together”.

Each year, the local artist community through their donations to Art For Life helps Friends For Life reach their mission of providing programs and services for people facing life-threatening illnesses such as HIV/AIDS and cancer at no cost to its members.

According to Sargeant, half of Friends For Life’s funding comes from events such as Art For Life. Being one of the Society’s annual signature events, Art For Life’s success enables it to provide approximately 50 different therapies to its members.

“Every piece of art we sell ensures that Friends For Life continues to provide holistic health services to 1,500 individuals facing serious and end-of-life illnesses, including HIV and cancer,” she said. “We are humbled by the kindness demonstrated by the galleries and independent artists that have contributed to this year’s spectacular collection”.

Back by popular demand, this year’s auction features world-renowned artist Andrew Salgado (“Untitled Study” pictured right), whose art from previous years was the highest-grossing piece in the auction. The evening will also feature performances by Inner Ring Circus and Mary Zilba from the Real Housewives of Vancouver.

“To me, Art For Life is not simply a charitable event, but an embodiment of love and hope that is clearly visible through the warm and welcoming community they foster”, says Zilba.

This year Art For Life will also feature a collectors’ preview which will provide art buyers with a chance to purchase the art pieces prior to the auction.
