With a total of $9,000 available, Canadian students attending BC post-secondary educational institutions have until January 31, 2010 to apply for the one of five scholarships being offered by the Gay and Lesbian Business Association of BC (GLBA) and Little Sister’s.
In addition to the cash award, the GLBA will also offer scholarship recipients with mentorships from the large GLBA membership.
Applications will be assessed on a number of requirements including providing two letters of reference, including one from an instructor or faculty member, and a letter detailing why the applicant feels they should be the recipient of the award. Complete eligility information and requirements for the application can be found on the GLBA website.
The GLBA sees their scholarships as a way to invest in the future leaders of the GLBT community by providing outstanding students with financial resources, role modeling and inspiration. Potential recipients will also need to demonstrate that they have the capacity and vision to improve an aspect of the GLBT community.
Funding Needed to Sustain Scholarships
Of course, the scholarships would not be available without the financial support to the GLBA Scholarship Foundation. With the GLBA underwriting the costs of administering the fund, 100% of every dollar donated to the Foundation goes to fund the scholarships. Donations can be made by completing the donor pledge sheet on the GLBA website. As a registered charity, donors will receive a tax receipt.
