The Rainbow Refugee Vancouver Womyn’s Caucus will host Hands Across The Rainbow, a fundraising event to help support a lesbian couple from the Middle East and other LGBTQ refugees during their first year in Canada.
“This event will assist our community’s commitment to support the sponsored couple for one year as well as LGBTQ refugees that Rainbow Refugee Society sponsors in the near future,” say organizers.
Founded in 2000, the Rainbow Refugee Committee is a volunteer driven organization supporting and advocating for people seeking refugee protection because of persecution based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or HIV status. Since 2011, Rainbow Refugee has helped to sponsor more than twenty-five LGBTQ refugees in resettling in Canada.
Rainbow Refugee is the sister organization to LEGIT: Canadian Immigration for Same-sex Partners, providing immigration information and support for LGBTQ community. Since its formation in 1991, LEGIT has helped thousands of couples in cross-border relationships gain permanent residence in Canada.
Hands Across The Rainbow takes place at the WISE Hall (1182 Adanac St, Vancouver) on June 19. Tickets are available online.
