The 17th Annual Art For Life Fine Art Auction will showcase a collection of 90 artworks valued at close to $200,000. Donated from some of Vancouver’s top artists, 100% of the art sales will benefit Friends For Life.
This year’s Art For Life, scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 13th, includes a VIP reception with guests able to meet some of the artists who have donated work. Following the reception, the main event gets underway with some 39 works of art going under the gavel. The live auction artworks are range in value from $2,500 – $15,000 with only a single painting posting a reserve.
In addition to what is expected to be a very lively art auction, a silent art auction featuring local emerging artists will also take place. Guests will also have a chance to win a number of raffle prizes that include luxurious travel and spa packages, valued at over $15,000.
Included in the auction is this year’s signature piece, titled “Mikey@20b” (pictured right), created by Vancouver artist Brian Boulton. Having studied architectural rendering at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, and Film and Art History at Langara College in Vancouver, Boulton captures singular moments of everyday life in his detailed depictions of the male subject. Based on digital photos, these solitary figures while comfortable in their own bodies stand removed from their urban environment. The stark whiteness of the background and partially averted face of “Mikey” suggests an alienation from the world. However Boulton’s painstakingly detailed works allow us entry into the private world of his subjects.
The only painting posting a reserve at this year’s auction is “Still Life With Parrot Tulips (1)” by Joseph Plaskett. Plaskett is considered to be one of Canada’s most talented and significant living painters and was awarded The Order of Canada for excellence in the field of visual art in 2001. “Still Life With Parrot Tulips (1)” has an opening bid reserve of $9,000 and an estimated value close to $15,000.
One of the premiere annual fundraisers for Friends For Life, Art For Life is a definite must for art collectors, those looking to start their own collection and those simply wanting to support the continued work of Friends For Life.
