With the Sochi Winter Olympics now a memory, we present the final love letter to Russia from Vancouver novelist, essayist and comedian Charles Demers.

The video series was curated by C. E. Gatchalian with videography by Geoff Peters and produced through the frank theatre company. Love letters have already been written and read by Lucia Frangione, Aaron Chan, Nicola HarwoodDavid C Jones and C.E. Gatchalian.

“You know those images, videos and photographs of queer people being attacked and brutalized in Russia? They’re bouncing all over the Internet. I can’t bring myself to look at those. And it’s not only because in looking at them, I can’t help but see my gay brother or my gay dad, but because nobody should have to look at those. And nobody should be going through that. And most importantly, nobody should be doing those things.” – Charles Demers

Charles Demers is a novelist, essayist, and one of Canada’s best stand-up comedians. He has worked extensively as a writer for television, radio, stage and web, and is the author of the books The Prescription Errors and Vancouver Special, the latter shortlisted for the Hubert Evans BC Bookprize for Non-Fiction.
