Twenty years ago, Dr Peter Jepson-Young began what became known as The Dr Peter Diaries on CBC Television. For many this was their first introduction to someone with AIDS. Over the next year, up until two weeks before his death, Dr Peter continued to chronicle his fight with this disease. In celebration of this 20th anniversary, on September 19th twenty-one of Vancouver’s top restaurants join forces for an unforgettable evening of food and wine to benefit the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, one of the many legacies left behind by this courageous man.
Hosted by Gloria Macarenko and Sophie Lui, Passions will continue its seven year reputation of being one of Vancouver’s “best small galas” and as one of Vancouver’s top events for food and wine lovers. Of course, all the while raising money for the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and the Dr. Peter Centre.
Since 2004, Passions has raised over half a million dollars in support of the Foundation which raises funds to support innovative health care at the Dr. Peter Centre in Vancouver’s West End.
The Dr. Peter Centre West End is British Columbia’s only HIV/AIDS Day Health Program and 24-hour nursing care Residence and as the only program of its kind in Canada, Dr. Peter Centre West End is a leader in HIV/AIDS care, particularly for individuals with multiple medical conditions and other life disadvantages.
On September 10, 2010, the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation will launch Dr. Peter 20/20 – a celebration of the past 20 years of Dr. Peter’s legacy and the vision of the Foundation for the next 20 years.
