The North America Outgames, to be held from July 25 – 31, 2011 in Vancouver, is still looking for a few good men and women.
With just 111 days to go (as of April 5) the organizers of the 2011 North America Outgames are still looking for flag bearers for the opening ceremonies.
All levels of ability are welcome as are members of both the LGBTQ community and their allies.
A number of opening ceremony flag bearers will participate in a flag run which will see runners carrying the rainbow and North America Outgames flags from City Hall (land), UBC (marine) and Grouse Mountain (mountain) to the opening celebration festivites.
To apply to be a flag bearer complete the North America Outgames Running of the Flags application.
While perhaps not of the magnitude of Vancouver’s showing with the Olympics in 2010, Vancouver’s edition of the North America OutGames will feature 18 different sports, from badminton to poker to hockey, plus a human rights conference. The games will also coincide with Vancouver Pride celebrations including the Vancouver Pride Parade and Festival on July 31st.
Along with sports, the Games will also include the human rights conference with workshops on diversity and an awards ceremony recognizing individuals and corporations that have influenced LGBT rights. Other scheduled events during the week long Games include a job fair, a Miss GLISA Pageant, cultural activities, a closing gala and a march of athletes in the 2011 Vancouver Pride Parade.
