This September do something fun and tasty

Summer may be coming to a close, but that’s even more of a reason to enjoy some of the great food events both inside and outside that are happening around Vancouver this month.  Here’s the scoop on a few of our favourites that include a few that also happen to benefit some great local charities we adore and think are deserving of your support. So go on, do something fun and tasty this September!

Come forage with Chef Chris Whittaker for an evening at Fraser Common Farms, one of many food events happening in and around Vancouver this September.

Come forage with Chef Chris Whittaker. Join him Saturday, September 14, 2013 for an evening at Fraser Common Farms (operating as Glorious Organics), just 45 minutes east of Vancouver in Aldergrove. Tour this co-operative farming community, help harvest your dinner, and then enjoy the creations of Chef Whittaker as he whips up a meal from your just picked produce and Gelderman Farms pork. Farm staff in overalls and bow ties serve your food and drink, all accompanied by musical entertainment. Tickets are still available.

Looking to eat healthier? The 16th Annual Whole Foods Market Living Naturally Fair is on September 14 & 15, 2013 at the Whole Foods Market on Robson Street. Enjoy delicious all-natural and organic foods and sample products from a number of local vendors. There will be entertainment and interactive demos, including live music, yoga and massages, as well as the debut of the Whole Foods Chef Stage. Guests can also reserve a front-row seat for a live “cook-off” demonstration between two chefs using a common main ingredient, enjoy tastes of the chefs’ creations, and sip wine from Harker’s Farm before voting on their favorite.

Food and design collide starting September 16, 2013 at GE Monogram’s Dinner by Design, a series of fundraising dinners and cocktail parties hosted by well-known interior designers and members of the design community for the benefit of local charities.

If you’re a fan of coffee, you’ll want to check out Vancouver Foodster’s Barista Challenge, on now until September 25, 2013. Cafes from all over the city have created one-of-a-kind signature beverages for you to enjoy, and then you vote for your favorite online. We’ve had the opportunity of trying a few of the entries and recommend you check out the selections from Continental Coffee and Lost and Found Café.

Are you a wine lover? Celebrate One Night in Argentina takes place on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 and includes over 25 Argentine wineries for you to discover, complemented with authentic bites. The evening includes live music and art with all proceeds go to the BC Hospitality Foundation.

Join Urban Zucchini at UBC Farm on September 28, 2013 for Celebrate the Harvest Field Dinner, a fundraiser dinner for Backpack Buddies, a unique local initiative aimed at ensuring students in Vancouver’s inner city schools. Guests will receive a tour of the farm, and enjoy a meal from Top Chef Trevor Bird of Fable Kitchen.
