Last week we were contacted by the producer of myVancouver Eats, a television program that airs on Telus’ Optik Local channel, asking if we would be interested in filming a cooking demo for an upcoming episode. Super excited knowing we’d join the likes of Harvest Union, The Last Crumb, Save On Meats, and Parallel 49 who had been previously featured on the show, we quickly said yes and arranged a date for the shoot.
It didn’t take us long to agree that pizza would make the perfect how-to for television. Not only is it something we love, it’s also fun and easy to make. In the past we’ve made faux pizza with tortillas and written about great spots in the city, but this time we wanted to tackle the real deal at home.
While excited about the upcoming filming it did mean a week of practice and prep for the big day; after all, we didn’t want to look unprepared for our television debut.
Spending the week testing recipes again and again, we finally came up with the perfect dough. Some were too sticky or too stiff, but by tweaking things Food Gays style, we mastered the art of the pizza dough.
Next was to get our place “camera ready”. It was reality television after all. We always thought that having a dinner party was a great excuse to scrub down the apartment, but just invite a camera crew into your home and things really kick into overdrive.
Being filmed for the first time with the huge professional cameras was slightly intimidating at first, but it didn’t take long before we were used to them. Melinda, the producer, was very friendly and helped us feel comfortable during the shoot. We messed up a few times and had to start over, but we think the end product will be pretty good. Even our dog Milo got to be part of the experience!
The shoot was a ton of fun and we can’t wait to see the final result. We’ll be sure to let you know when the episode is scheduled to air. Stay tuned!
