Summer musicals sizzle at Arts Club

The Arts Club Theatre Company announced today a four-week holdover of their summer musical Altar Boyz, as well as the addition of four final performances to their successful run of Les Misérables.

Altar Boyz, the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway hit of a Christian boy band on their “Raise the Praise Tour,” has been playing packed houses at the Granville Island Stage since it began its run on June 18. Artistic Managing Director (and director of both Altar Boyz and Les Misérables) Bill Millerd says, “This hilarious musical features the triple-threat talents of five extraordinary ‘boyz,’ amazing choreography by Sara-Jeanne Hosie, and a blazing band led by Sasha Niechoda. We’re delighted that so many have chosen to spend their summer with this heavenly production.”

At the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, four final performances have been added to the holdover already announced for Les Misérables, the highest-selling production in the Arts Club’s 46-year history. Executive Director Howard Jang says, “The response to our production continues to be overwhelming. We’re pleased to be able to offer four more opportunities for audiences to enjoy ‘Les Miz’ before the Stanley becomes the site of filming for our 2010 premiere of Tear the Curtain! with the Electric Company Theatre. Many thanks to all who have embraced Les Misérables, spread the word to family and friends, and shared your enthusiasm and support with all of us.”

Altar Boyz will now run until Saturday, August 29, 2009.

The added performances for Les Misérables are:

Tuesday, August 4 7:30 pm
Wednesday, August 5 2 & 8 pm
Thursday, August 6 8 pm

Tickets for these performances go on sale Thursday, July 16, at 10 am and can be purchased by calling the Arts Club Box Office at 604.687.1644 or visiting
