The finale of Vancouver’s 2011 Pride celebrations is the annual Parade and Festival on Sunday, July 21, 2011 with over 600,000 spectators expected to line the parade route.  Here is all you need to know to get the most out of both of these events!

The Parade begins at Noon on Sunday, July 31, 2011 from the corner of Robson and Bute Streets, heads west down Robson to Denman Street, follows Denman to Pacific and Beach Avenues, finishing at the Sunset Beach Festival site.  Given past parades it is expected the parade will last for approximately three hours, with the final entry reaching the Sunset Beach Festival at approximately 3pm.  Be sure to get here early – with hundreds of thousands of spectators anticipated you’ll definitely want to claim your best viewing spot well in advance of the start time.

Road Closures / Getting to the Parade

Street closures will begin at 8am along the parade route and will reopen at approximately 3pm.  Parking restrictions will also be in place.  It recommended you take transit rather than attempting to drive into the West End.

What to Bring

With summer finally (hopefully?) here to stay, be sure to bring plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated as well as sunscreen and a hat!  Also be sure to bring your loose change and watch for the Pride Society Toonie Brigade as they make their way along the parade route collecting donations to help pay for all the festivities!
